BOTANY UNDERGRAD IS CAS STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Eric Larson is working as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Jennifer Parke’s laboratory. Funded by the Agricultural Research Foundation, Eric has targeted Phytophthora ramorum (Sudden Oak Death pathogen) control in nursery irrigation. Chemical treatment of runoff water from nurseries could reduce spread of P. ramorum to the environment, but may be toxic to aquatic life. Five different treatments were investigated in a large replicated trial and some of the treatments showed potential that warrant further testing. Eric is the lead author on a poster showing the results of this work entitled "Potential treatments for disinfesting runoff water from nurseries contaminated with Phytophthora ramorum" with Joyce Eberhart and Jennifer Parke that will be presented at the 2013 American Phytopathological Society meeting in Austin, Texas.

Eric is majoring in Botany and Microbiology with expected graduation in June 2014.
