Changes to BDS major

The following significant changes will be effective starting Fall term of academic year 2022:

BDS Major

1. CS 161, CS 162, CS 261, and MTH 231 are no longer required as part of the core foundational courses.
2. BDS 406 was replaced with BDS 420; BDS 406 was simply renumbered.

 

Genomics option

1. BDS 310 is required
2. Expanded the lists of courses that satisfy requirements and electives

 

Ecology and Environmental Informatics option

1. BDS 310, BDS 474, and BDS 477 are required.
2. Expanded the lists of courses that satisfy requirements and electives.

 

Computational Biology option

1. CS 162, CS 261, and MTH 231 are required; CS 162 has prerequisites that are not part of the option requirement.
2. BDS 474 is required.
3. Reduced the number of courses required from electives list.
4. Expanded the lists of courses that satisfy requirements and electives.

 

BDS Minor

1. BDS 211, BDS 310, and BDS 311 are required.
2. The Computer Science category was eliminated.
3. Expanded the list of courses that satisfy electives.

 

Students already in BDS prior to Fall of 2022 will follow requirements that were in place in the catalog year they joined unless they request to move to the new curriculum. For more details, please see Catalog Rights Policy.
