New Paper in Plant Genomics and Bioinformatics

The Pankaj Jaiswal and Sushma Naithani Labs, in collaboration with researchers from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY, NYU Longone Health, NY, Ensembl Plants, and European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), UK, and Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), Canada, have published a new research article in the 2021 NAR Database issue. The article summarizes recent updates to the Gramene, a comparative genomic and network analysis resource and knowledgebase for the plant research community, on its 20th anniversary.

Since its inception in 2001, Gramene has provided unique genome-scale data visualization platforms and analytical tools to support the global community of plant genomics researchers, molecular biologists, geneticists, and breeders. The current Gramene release #63 (October 2020) hosts 93 reference plant genomes––over 3.9 million genes in 122947 gene families. Gramene’s Plant Reactome portal developed at OSU, host plant pathway networks using a combination of manual biocuration in rice (320 reference pathways) and orthology-based projections to 106 species.

The project is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the United States Department of Agriculture—Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS).
