Iain C. MacSwan
Iain C. MacSwan died at his home in Corvallis on October 18, 1992. He was 71.
He was born on April 15, 1921 in Ocean Falls, British Columbia, Canada.
He earned a BSA degree at the University of British Columbia where he served in the Canadian Officers Training Corps. For the next three years he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the British Isles.
On Feb 17, 1943 he married Helen "Peg" White in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After his discharge from the service, Mr. MacSwan began his career in plant pathology at UBC. In 1955 he was hired as an Assistant Professor in Oregon State University. He earned his MSA degree at UBC in 1961, and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1964.
Through the years his primary duties included diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in plants. Other assignments included supervising the plant clinic, and the Botany and Plant Pathology Field Laboratory, serving as president of the Western Cooperative Spray Conference, leading the Fungicide Testing Program, and coordinating the Western Small Fruits Disease Conference and the First International Congress of Plant Pathology with extension centers in Scotland, England, Italy, Germany and Holland. He retired as full Professor in 1987.
He was a member of the American Phytopathological Society, and the Canadian Phytopathological Society.
