Biography
Hi! My name is Johanna Smyth, though I go by Caity. I grew up in several different countries but I have now lived in Oregon longer than anywhere else. I completed my B.S. in Biology at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. As an undergrad, I researched the maintenance of shoot apical meristems in Arabidopsis and fell in love with plant biology. I worked for a few years as a lab technician and manager before coming to Oregon State to pursue my Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Pathology. Here I focused on the changes that occur to the transcriptome and proteome of corn pollen as it transitions from a quiescent mature state to one that is actively germinating a pollen tube. I enjoyed the university, department, and Oregon so much that I decided to stay and become a part of the OSU team!
