Research/Career Interests

Understand viruses in agroecological ecosystems, developing bioinformatic tools for the analysis of complex viromes, and helping growers, breeders, and diagnosticians by translating virome applications.

Personal Interests:

I like viruses, beer and cities.

I am a virologist working on the agroecological interface, implementing viral metagenomics and computational biology. This helps me understand the virus diversity and distribution in the landscape, identifying ecological patterns and community assemblage.

I have worked with several crops, including corn, sugarcane, tomato, pepper, potato, sweetpotato, papaya, among others. Here, at Oregon State, I am starting to explore the forest virome, in trees such as tanoak, douglas-fir, red-woods among different tree species, in the end, my focus is all plants as a virus host.
