Walter Mahaffee

Research focuses on understanding the ecology of microorganisms on plant surfaces, and applying that knowledge to reduce disease development in agronomic settings while enhancing the economic and sustainable production of horticultural crops. Current research projects (1) inoculum monitoring as a decision aide; (2) monitoring and mitigation of fungicide resistance; (3) developing a simulation environment for viticulture and cyber-physical system for risk management in agricultural systems; (4) disease epidemiology and pathogen dispersion; (5) use of germicidal UV light for management of grape powdery mildew.
