Fee |
|---|---|
Plant disease diagnosis |
$87 per in state sample $130.50 per out-of-state sample |
Plant disease diagnosis is our most frequently requested service. The service includes overall evaluation, including microscopic exam, results from a moist chamber, isolations onto artificial nutrient media, and identification of fungi or bacteria to genus. Viruses are diagnosed using serology or electron microscopy. Measurement of soil pH and total soluble salts will be performed if necessary. Management recommendations are included.
Typical turnaround time to receive results that require molecular or culturing tests is 2 weeks, but may vary depending on the problem and sample load.

Insect/mite and other arthropod identifications |
Free (go to Insect ID Clinic) Individual insects/arthropods must be collected to utilize the free service through the Insect ID Clinic. To check for insects/arthropods in plant samples, the plant disease diagnosis fee will apply. |
Testing for crown gall (Agrobacterium spp.) or leafy gall (Rhodococcus fascians) pathogens in symptomless material |
$153 per in state sample $229.50 per out-of-state sample |
Fungal or Bacterial testing via PCR |
$90/pathogen in state samples; $24 for each additional sample received at the same time. $135/pathogen out-of-state samples; $36 for each additional sample received at the same time. Screening for requested fungal and bacterial pathogens, including phytoplasmas. |
Virus or Viroid testing via RT-PCR |
$100/pathogen in state samples; $30 for each additional sample received at the same time. $150/pathogen out-of-state samples; $45 for each additional sample received at the same time. Screening for requested viruses or viroids. |
Identification of a pathogen using sequencing |
$128/pathogen per in state sample. $189/pathogen per out-of-state sample. Bacterial or fungal cultures that are purified will be identified by sequencing a single DNA region (e.g. ITS or 16S). Identification to species will be provided when possible, but may be limited to genus depending on the organism. |
Testing Soil for Phytophthora via Baiting |
$90 per in state sample. $112.50 per out-of-state sample. |
Seed assays |
$141/seed sample in state. $211.50/seed sample out-of-state. Testing for Phoma, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Fusarium and Pseudomonas syringae is available. Contact the clinic to discuss testing for other pathogens. |
Water assays |
$122/sample in state. $183/sample out-of-state. Phytophthora or Pythium testing of water via filtration. Advance notice is required and samples can be accepted only Monday - Wednesday. |
Soil assays |
$72/sample in state. $107/sample out-of-state. Field soil will be tested for Verticillium dahlia by culturing. This test takes a minimum of 4 weeks. A minimum of 5 samples per acre is recommended for reasonable representation of the field. Testing for other Verticillium species is not currently available. |
Rush samples |
Quick turnaround (48 hours in most cases) for a diagnosis = $200 in addition to the diagnosis or testing fee. Samples that can be diagnosed by visual examinations and PCR tests can be rushed, but they cannot be rushed when culturing is necessary. This service is not available at all times and must be discussed via phone or e-mail before submitting a sample. |
Special assays and ID services |
$290/ hour |
Large insect sample processing |
$120 |
