Diversity

Diversity Statement

As members of the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology, we value diversity because of its importance in enriching our research, teaching, scholarship, engagement, and public outreach. We foster a welcoming, inclusive community to all individuals regardless of physical ability, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, nationality or personal religious practices.  Our goal is to increase the diversity of individuals participating in life sciences and related fields by recruiting, mentoring, retaining and promoting under-represented and minority groups.

Mission Statement for Diversity Committee

Our mission is to increase the inclusion and participation by underrepresented students, staff, and faculty, with particular focus on undergraduate and graduate programs administered by BPP. The Diversity Committee was formed to foster new connections with the community and enhance outreach opportunities for underrepresented youth, as well as to encourage awareness about the value of diversity when conducting recruitment and hiring practices. We also aim to expand the outreach programs of BPP to bring supplemental STEM education to K-12 schools with a substantial population of underrepresented minorities.
